In August 2000 I went for a week to Venice. It was actually the first time that I visited Italy. Nice thing about Venice is that you're alway's surrounded by water. Going somewhere, you take the waterbus. We were staying south of the city on the island Lido. Here the famous filmfestival takes place every year. Some of our afternoons where spend here on the beach or near the pool. One of the high-lights of the week was the visit to the Biennale di Venezia. A huge exhibition with the latest pieces of modern art. All into one of the nicest settings I have every seen. When visiting Venice, try to avoid the famous tourist attractions as much as possible. The Plaza San Marco is beautiful, but the amount of tourists spoils a lot of it. Try to get a map and walk around through the other parts of Venice. Eat at the places where the locals come...
