In January 2001 I went with Brunel ICT Consultants for one and a half day to Kuusamo in Finland. We left friday in the afternoon from Schiphol Airport. Arriving a few hours later in the middle of Finland near the Russian border was amazing. Temperatures way below freezing point. Snow, snow everywhere there was snow. After a traditional dinner we headed with a few guy's to 'downtown' Kuusamo. After meeting some weird Finnish kids, we decided to join them and went to the local disco. Getting up the next morning was hard. Jumping in the bus to go for a snowscooter ride through the nature, over frozen lakes. Trees, trees, everywhere there where trees. Sun went up at 10:30 or so... After a traditional lunch in a tradtional hut, we did some snow-games and to finish the day off, a sleigh-ride... Sunset starts at 15:00 hours. Had reindeer burger and some drinks before heading again to the airport to fly home around 20:00. Great break, but a short one. Best experience there: the amazing polar light.
